Air handling units

Supply and exhaust ventilation units are designed to supply fresh air into the room and remove exhaust air masses outside. These units also perform a number of additional important functions — heating and drying fresh air, cleaning incoming and exhaust air masses. Such equipment is installed in private homes, shops, offices, concert and exhibition halls, and industrial premises.

Composition of air handling units

The design of the supply and exhaust units includes the following elements, compactly located in a common housing:

• supply and exhaust fans;
• rotary or plate recuperator;
• filters for cleaning air masses and protecting the recuperator from damage;
• not all models have a water or electric air heater that provides additional heating of the air;
• automation, with the help of which the unit is controlled by a wired or built-in control panel.

Types of supply and exhaust ventilation units

Depending on the installation method, installations are divided into the following groups:

• Suspended, marked with the letter «C». Installation — near the ceiling, air ducts are connected in the same plane.
• Vertical «V». Mounted on the floor, air ducts are connected to the top of the unit.
• Horizontal «S». Installation — floor, connection of air ducts — on both sides of the device.

Air handling units differ in the type of recuperator installed in them. A recuperator is a surface-type heat exchanger in which fresh air entering the room is heated by the heat of the exhaust gases. The presence of such a heat exchanger in the supply and exhaust unit provides significant savings in energy costs that are required to heat the incoming air.

Types of recuperators:

• Rotary. Efficient, but inlet and outlet flows are not sealed.
• Lamellar. Efficiency — up to 70%. Air flows do not mix with each other.
• Liquid. Practically not used.
