Industrial scales are measuring equipment designed to determine the mass of goods. Available in a variety of designs, dimensions, and technical characteristics. It is used for weight control during technological, trading, and accounting operations. They differ from household industrial scales in their ability to function accurately in difficult conditions, which allows them to be used in warehouses, industrial premises, and open spaces. Weighing feeders are often included in production lines. Autonomous models can be used in places remote from centralized power supplies.

Types of industrial scales by operating principle - mechanical and electronic

Mechanical weighing equipment is affordable, adapted to work under difficult environmental conditions, and does not require replacement of batteries or connection to the network. Types of mechanical industrial scales according to the principle of operation:

  • Spring. Their device includes a spring connected to an arrow. The mass of an object is characterized by the amount of tension of the spring.
  • Rocker Their design consists of two platforms - a load is installed on one of them, and a weight of the corresponding mass is installed on the second.
  • Hydraulic. The principle of their operation is based on the compression of the liquid medium in the cylinder when placing the goods on the loading platform.
  • Pneumatic. They operate like hydraulic models, only a gaseous medium is pumped into the cylinder.

Electronic industrial scales differ from mechanical ones in increased accuracy and higher prices. The design of this equipment includes conventional or temperature-compensated strain gauges that convert physical quantities into an electrical impulse. The weighing result is displayed on the display. Electronic models can be connected to a PC.

Types of industrial scales by design

The design of the equipment is selected depending on the planned technical task:

  • Counting. They allow you to isolate the mass of one product from a number of similar products and count the number of units. They can signal when the load reaches a certain weight and perform other functions.
  • Hanging. The loads are hung on a hook. These devices are suitable for weighing heavy goods.
  • Automotive. The design includes ramps that allow vehicles to conveniently enter the weighing platform.
  • Floor-standing. They are divided into several subspecies. Platform models are used for large goods moved using a forklift. Low-platform varieties allow you to place loads on them without the use of forklifts. Pallet floor industrial scales are equipped with a U-shaped platform, convenient for working with goods in pallets and boxes.
  • Analytical. This high-precision measuring equipment is used in analytical laboratories.

Recommendations for choosing industrial scales

When purchasing this measuring equipment, consider:

  • Weighing accuracy. Accuracy classes – 1-3. The first class is the most accurate.
  • Weighing limits – minimum and maximum permissible weights of objects.
  • Materials from which the main components are made. For difficult operating conditions, models with a platform made of corrosion-resistant steel are suitable.
  • Terms of Use. For each model, the permissible operating conditions are established by the manufacturer and indicated in the technical data sheet.
  • Dimensions of weighing equipment, which must correspond to the dimensions of the working site.
